Bell and threat to fire services

Retained fire fighters usually have jobs outside the fire service. As a 2nd job they may spend up to 120 hours a week on call - at home or at their regular work - but they are there for emergencies. They are an important part of British life.

Phone charges scrapped

The news that BT is to scrap charges for 0845 and 0870 numbers is to be welcomed. Currently these charges are up to 5.8 p a minute but they will be lifted from January 16th depending on the customers contract. The move will cost BT around £24 million.

Lib Dems hit back after Labour council house slur

The East Lothian Liberal Democrats have today hit back at the Labour council group after it was alleged by Willie Innes, Labour's council leader, that the Liberal Democrats were opposed to council housing. Judy Hayman, a prominent member of the East Lothian Lid Dems hit back saying "nothing could be further from the truth."
