Amy Rodger, Liberal Democrat Candidate for East Lothian, hosted and addressed a packed fringe meeting at the Scottish Liberal Democrat Conference in Aviemore. The meeting discussed the sweeping changes brought about by the new voting changes implemented for the first time at the local council elections last May.
Ms Rodger told the meeting, "The new voting system gave the people of Scotland real control over the result of the election. For the first time, their votes really counted, and allowed voters to remove unpopular council administrations across Scotland."
"In my own constituency of East Lothian, the Liberal Democrats are now part of a dynamic administration, changing the county for the better, after voters used the new voting system to their advantage, removing a Labour administration that had taken East Lothian for granted."
Ms Rodger, Director of the Electoral Reform Society Scotland, continued, "Voters in East Lothian made sure their voices were heard, and used their votes to kick Labour out. This is a pattern that will continue across the country, ensuring that no party can take Scottish votes for granted."
