Amy Rodger, Liberal Democrat Parliamentary candidate for East Lothian, is backing North Berwick's bid to become East Lothian's first Fairtrade town.
Ms Rodger said, "I'm proud of the Liberal Democrats' record of campaigning for a better deal for producers in developing countries and Fairtrade is an important part of process. Fairtrade status will show every visitor to the town that North Berwick is committed to trading equitably and sustainably."
She continued, "It will be good for North Berwick, good for East Lothian, and good for producers. We can offer a helping hand from our community to theirs; enabling developing countries to use the extra profit that Fairtrade brings to develop education and healthcare provision within their community."
Ms Rodger was speaking after attending the screening of "Black Gold" at North Berwick High School, organised jointly by 'Earth Matters', North Berwick's Fairtrade shop, and the North Berwick cinema club.
