The East Lothian Liberal Democrats have been awarded the Willie Leitch trophy for campaigning at this year's Scottish Liberal Democrat conference in Aviemore, in recognition of the successful Council election campaign in May 2007 which saw the Lib Dem group increase from one to six councilors and form part of the new administration.
The trophy, presented in memory of former leading Aberdeen Liberal campaigner Willie Leitch, is awarded by the Aberdeen Central Liberal Democrats for the best campaign of the year. Receiving the award on behalf of the Liberal Democrat Council group, Cllr Stuart Currie said, "It is a great honour to receive this award. The example of our success last May shows what can be done through hard work and eager campaigning. We now have the opportunity to make a real difference to the people of East Lothian after years of Labour neglect."
