Amy Rodger, Liberal Democrat candidate for East Lothian, has been touring the county collecting signatures for her campaign to save East Lothian's Post Offices, and it is clear from initial canvassing that Labour's closure plan is as unpopular as the MP who supports it.
Ms Rodger and the East Lothian Liberal Democrats have visited Dunbar, North Berwick and Haddington over the last month to highlight the plight of local post offices, many of which are under threat of closure due to Labour's nationwide cut of local services.
Ms Rodger said, "So far over 500 signatures have been collected and this is only the beginning. There is a great deal of support for post offices in East Lothian and I will continue to tour the county to ensure that we harness that support, putting pressure on this Labour government to halt their crusade of cuts and closure."
She added, "Many people have told me that they feel our post offices serve distinct communities within our county. Elderly and disabled people, as well as people without their own transport, all rely on a local post office to access vital services. These groups will suffer if the closure plan goes ahead, and I am fighting to ensure that this does not happen."
Ms Rodger will continue her tour of the county this weekend (Saturday 3rd May) in Musselburgh and encourages all who want to see their local post office saved to join the campaign.
