History and heritage of the County to be highlighted

May 3, 2008 10:00 AM

Dunbar CastleCllr Stuart Currie and the new Council administration, in which the Lib Dems are a powerful voice, want to use the vast number of historical sites and places of interest in East Lothian to promote the County to visitors and residents alike. A new guide called Heritage Explorer has been released to introduce anyone interested in the history of our County to the many places and events that have shaped the development of our local communities.

Stuart said: "For such a comparatively small area, East Lothian has an incredibly rich array of locations and buildings of historic interest. Along the coastline are remains of 13th century castles such as Dirleton Castle and Dunbar Castle and further inland East Lothian is home to some of the most important battle sites in the country which helped shaped the formation of modern day Scotland. It's clear from the popularity of such TV programmes as Time Team and Two Men in a Trench that people are interested in finding out about the past and this leaflet will appeal to a wide audience."

Copies of Heritage Explorer are available now at local libraries and museums for free.
