Privatisation of forests is a step too far in climate change battle
Jim Hume, senior Liberal Democrat and South of Scotland MSP, has today commented on the Rural Affairs and Environment Committee's conclusion that it does not support the Scottish Government's proposals on leasing 25% of Scotland's forestry to private investment companies.
Liberal Democrat Rural Affairs spokesperson Jim Hume MSP said:
"The Parliament's Rural Affairs and Environment Committee has surely delivered the final death blow to the Scottish Government's ill-advised and deeply unpopular forestry plans.
"All that remains now is for the Scottish Government to drop these ludicrous plans which will reassure those in the rural job sector, protect timber supplies and leisure activities.
"Axing these reckless plans will remove the guillotine hanging over the future success of rural economies and communities supported by the timber industry."
