Port Seton's newest play park will be officially opened on Saturday 25 April during a Family Fun Open Day hosted by Port Seton Centre.
A Steering Group, made up of local parent volunteers from the community, the Port Seton Advisory Committee and Cockenzie & Port Seton Community Council in partnership with East Lothian Council, developed the £70,000 play park. Local school children were encouraged to enter a competition to name their park and design a name plaque with the winning design to be unveiled on Saturday.
Melissa Penman, a primary 3 pupil at Cockenzie Primary School, put forward the winning name "The Seabreeze Park" and will join Cllr Stuart Currie to officially unveil her plaque design and open the park at 12 noon.
Starting at 10am the open day will bring together a number of the groups based at the centre to show the extensive recreational and learning opportunities available in the area.
The day will kick off with children's entertainer 'Tricky Ricky' and 'Bingo' the puppet dog. There will be lots of entertainment, displays and demonstrations for a wide-ranging audience. Staff will also be on hand to hear first hand what people think about the centre and what developments they would like to see.
Cabinet member for Community Services Councillor Stuart Currie will be attending the event:
"Port Seton Centre is a much-valued community facility, which brings together people of all ages and interests. The Play Park Steering Group worked tirelessly to develop play park proposals and raise funding that would make it happen. Their efforts will benefit the whole area."
Over 35 groups currently use Port Seton Centre - from Parents & Toddlers to Tea Dancers. It is also home to a gym, library, cafe, Sandcastle nursery and Port Seton Resource Centre for adults with learning disabilities, which means that there is a diverse user group leading to a vibrant atmosphere.
