Cllr. Stuart Currie, East Lothian's Depute Leader, has today published his expenses claimed from 1st April 2008 to 31st March 2009.
Stuart said, " I want to be as open as possible with my constituents and ensure they know the amounts I have claimed for the last year to carry out my duties in my ward as well as throughout East Lothian in my role as Depute Leader."
As a local councillor I am entitled to claim expenses for out of pocket expenses to carry out my duties. These duties also include my roles as Depute Leader of the Council, Cabinet Member for Housing and Community Services. I also serve as the Vice Convenor of Lothian and Borders Fire and Rescue Board. Wherever possible, to cut down costs to the council, I share a car with my wife, Cllr. Ruth Currie, to travel to meetings in Haddington or to other meeting locations.
All claims must be supported by receipts and a VAT receipt for petrol, which allows East Lothian Council to reclaim the VAT.
I receive the use of a computer at my council office in Haddington. In addition I have use of a handheld PDA so that I can receive and respond to e-mails and telephone calls from and to constituents as well as other enquiries. All this information technology is provided to me and I do not claim expenses for these, although the end of year figures produced by East Lothian Council details the costs of purchasing the machines as well as the ongoing costs. The costs of any training course or conference I attend are paid directly by East Lothian Council.
The expenses claimed by me to carry out my council duties from 1st April 2008 to 31st March 2009 are as follows:
Car mileage (pays for fuel) = £1899.12
Subsistence = £196.05
Passenger Mileage = £28.25
Other Travel (train, bus etc) = £240.50
Other expenses = £164.89
Total expenses claimed for 2008/09 = £2528.81
As always I am happy to meet with constituents to discuss any aspect of the above claims.
