Lib Dems pledge to make Britain a fairer place3.57.00pm GMT Thu 21st Jan 2010 Recently the various political parties have been laying out their policies ahead of the forthcoming General Election. The Liberal Democrats have pledged to make Britain a fairer place and this should be the test of all policies put before the people of East Lothian. We would reform the tax system taking millions of the lowest income earners out of tax altogether. In stark contrast the Conservatives who want to give a tax break to the highest income earners, while Labour will hit lower and middle income earners by increasing National Insurance Contributions. We will bring changes to the electoral system including a fairer voting system and the right for voters to sack its MP, while Labour and Conservatives conspire at Westminster to delay vital changes to bring trust back to the political system. Liberal Democrats will abandon Labour and Conservative plans for an expensive and unnecessary replacement of Trident and scrap ID Cards. We will rebuild the economy - promoting green technology and infrastructure, ending casino banking and supporting local businesses. David Cameron and Gordon Brown are playing the politics of the airbrush and the focus group. One of them does not know what he believes and the other is clinging to power in any way he can. The country needs something different and only the Lib Dems are offering this change. We offer credibility where it is needed and a hope for our common future.
